Inspired by the historic 1894 Renaissance Imperial Egg created by master jeweler Michael Perchin, this design reflects the final Easter gift presented by Tsar Alexander III to Empress Maria Feodorovna before his death. Unlike the traditional upright form of most Imperial eggs, the original Renaissance Egg was crafted horizontally in the style of an 18th century jewel casket, giving it a distinctive and elegant silhouette.

The authentic masterpiece was fashioned from translucent milky white agate and adorned with gold, red diamonds, and sapphires, with its upper half opening on a gold hinge. Scholars believe the so called Resurrection Egg may have originally served as its missing surprise, as historical invoices referenced a surprise that no longer accompanies the piece.

After being seized following the 1917 Revolution, the egg passed through prominent collectors before being acquired in 2004 for a museum collection in St. Petersburg, where it remains today.
